Jasprit Bumrah immediately set a focused tone upon entering the Edgbaston Cricket Ground nets. The Indian pace spearhead wasted no time, launching into an intense spell of fast bowling.
After a brief warm-up, Bumrah measured his run-up and unleashed a 20-minute burst, bowling to Sai Sudharsan, Ravindra Jadeja, and Karun Nair, with Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Rishabh Pant taking a break.
Bumrah's varied attack challenged the batters with pace, accuracy, and different angles, showcasing his mental freshness after a three-day break. He bowled both around the wicket for left-handers and utilized the crease's width for right-handers. Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna bowled alongside him.
The trio from the Headingley Test, after light training on Friday, engaged in purposeful practice on the second day. They each bowled for about thirty minutes, followed by batting practice in the nets.
Siraj honed his defensive skills with batting coach Sitanshu Kotak, while Bumrah sampled various bowling styles, from side-armers to slow bowlers. He also practiced his batting, displaying increasing confidence as the day progressed.
Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja continued his batting practice, and Arshdeep Singh and Akash Deep aimed to impress. Kuldeep Yadav focused on both batting and bowling, leaving no stone unturned in his preparation.
Whether Akash or Arshdeep gets a chance depends on Bumrah's availability, Kuldeep is preparing meticulously.
The left-arm wrist-spinner actively sought feedback from the support staff and teammates, experimenting with new angles and lengths. The dry Birmingham weather could favor his inclusion in the second Test. His bowling rhythm has been evident since the pre-series sessions in Leeds, and he has engaged in competitive battles with Indian batters.
Kuldeep has dedicated hours to improving his batting, working with head coach Gautam Gambhir and batting coach Sitanshu Kotak. Over the past 18 months, he has strived to contribute meaningfully with the bat.
After two days of practice, the team will take a break before regrouping on June 30. The bowlers can rest, and bowling coach Morne Morkel can continue his playful wrestling with Arshdeep and Akash Deep. Bumrah's inclusion remains uncertain, at least for the next 48 hours.
